We’re delighted to share the good news story of the Withers family, who’ve benefited from our 40 Free Floors for 40 Good Causes global appeal. Banding together to nominate the family of four from Bonalbo, New South Wales, friends of the Withers family nominated them because of their willingness to help others regardless of the difficulties they face themselves.

Margaret Withers, Australia Day 2011’s Citizen of the Year, has rheumatoid arthritis and struggles with day-to-day activities and housekeeping. In addition to this, due to ongoing back pain, Bill Withers finds himself bedridden throughout most of the day. Despite their health issues, the Withers family remain active in their community – rescuing, nursing and providing shelter for abandoned pets. They’re currently taking care of 35 guinea pigs, five rabbits, seven cats and a dog!
In collaboration with local retail partner, Gava Floor Centre, our Van Gogh Copper Gum was selected by the family for its rich tones and rustic finish, which brought warmth and a cozy feel to their family home. Bill told us, “The new flooring is absolutely beautiful and I could not be more pleased. It suits the needs of our home and it’s brilliant for cleaning.

“My wife’s walking stick is often used on the new floor, so we really appreciate the floor’s durability as well. The slight softness also makes it less strenuous on her arms when she’s walking around our home.”
Each one of our 40 winners has a unique and incredible story to tell, visit our website to see the full list and find out more about the global appeal.
