It’s also the perfect excuse to decorate the house with seasonal displays, particularly in the kitchen and dining room. Adding those simple, yet quaint touches to create an inviting and relaxing atmosphere.
Here are a few tips and considerations to help set the tone…
Floral fancies – surrounded by the luminous joys of the season, look to create sweet floral displays for both your table and the room you’ll be hosting in. If you’re planning a large banquet, sporadically placed jam jars of Sweet Peas will help highlight the goodness on offer. Or if you’re wanting a uniquely seasonal centre piece, try this…

To recreate, find a large pitcher, place a highball glass in the middle, then cut two lemons into quarters and arrange the slices between the two glasses. Then, gently pour water over the lemon slices and into the highball glass. Select your favourite flowers – seasonal specialties, like peonies, anemones, dusty pink roses, lilacs and white lilies – and ta-da, you’ve got yourself an eye-catching floral fancy!
Tantalizing table – whether you prefer elaborate or simplistic settings, be clear and clever with your table setting. Your guests may be spending most of the time sat at the table, so make it a comfortable and inviting place to linger.
We adore the rustic, vintage informal feel mismatched glasses, crockery and cutlery can create. However, this can easily look like a jumble sale if you’re not careful, so we suggest underpinning with matching place mats, name cards and napkins.

If you’re hosting an evening soiree, lightly sprinkle golden glitter along a table runner or use metallic candle holders to help capture and move low, ambient lighting for subtle sophistication.

Lacy allure – the key to lace is not to go overboard – a little lace goes a long way. Already boasting intricate, delicate detail, it should be used in the same vein; cutlery and napkin ties to delicate table runners and glass mats.

Lustrous lighting – ambiance sets the scene. If you’re planning an evening affair, accent lighting is perfect for creating the right tone. Candle boxes look fantastic on long rectangular table, making a striking addition to your decorative setting. Or, if you’re dressing a round table, a free-standing church candle with three or four wicks will produce plenty of welcoming light without taking up too much space.
