Celebrating their 30th year in business next year, Carpets Direct Ltd is owned and run by father and son duo, Eric and Paul Black. Providing a wealth of knowledge and experience, the company supply and fit flooring for both domestic and commercial projects. Having been a Karndean retailer for the past 20 years, we caught up with the pair to find out more about their business and the key to their success.
Q. Considering how long you’ve been in the flooring business, what’s been the highlight so far?
E: Seeing customers who have used our services in the past come back is so rewarding. It also a testament that if a customer is looked after in terms of service and quality, they will inevitably return and recommend us to their friends and family.
Q. In your opinion, what would you say most of your customers look for when it comes to choosing a new floor?
P: Our customers, I feel, are looking for greater design and colour options to choose from. They want to be able to find a design that’s individual and truly unique to them.
E: They also want expert advice and experienced installers, I think this rates highly in the decision making process, along with the design they choose. Appreciating this, we ensure all our staff are knowledgeable and fully trained in all the ranges and products we sell.
Q. So why did you choose to partner with Karndean?
P: We decided to partner with Karndean 20 years ago, initially we were attracted to the innovation of the product, as it was relatively new to the market back then.
E: I actually remember when we took delivery of the old design tables, in fact, we still have a copy of Karndean Designflooring brochure issue one! It’s been great to see how the brand has grown into the market leader in LVT flooring.
Q. How does our flooring meet the needs of customers walking into your store?
E: We had new point of sale displays installed last year, which really have transformed our showroom. It offers our customers the chance to get a better understanding and visual of Karndean flooring.
P: Our new display helps inspire our customers. By simply and easily allowing them to browse the various designflooring options – giving them a clearer idea of what they can create in their homes or commercial spaces with Karndean.
Q. What is your favourite Karndean product or range?
P: I do like the traditional Da Vinci wood look designs, I particularly like the collection because of the bevel on a narrow plank. However, Art Select Woods and Stones boast some stunning designs and are very popular with our customers.
