Tuscany

In June I was lucky enough to spend a week in Tuscany. I knew Andrew and I would love Italy because of the food and culture and idylic Tuscany didn’t disapoint. We flew from Luton to Pisa, picked up our hire car and headed to our B&B in Oliveto some 160 kilometres away, an interesting drive as we became accustomed to Italian roads and drivers!

Our B&B, Il Fondaco Del Moro, was set in the small hamlet of Oliveto, in the province of Arezzo. It really was the quietest place you could imagine and a beautiful base for our daily trips. It was also close to Monte San Savino which was a great place to wind down with an evening meal after a busy day exploring.

We spent our first day in the picturesque Cortona, quaint streets, shops and restaurants ensured a relaxing first trip, once we had parked!

We planned the following days ensuring we ticked off all the places we wanted to visit most whilst there. This took us to Florence, Arezzo, Sienna, Pienza, Montepulciano, Monticchiello and Lake Trasimeno along with a few other little villages we discovered.

Geleteria, Siena.

Sunset at Monticchiello after a wonderful meal at Osteria La Porta which I would highly recommend.

Siena was my stand out day, the tradtional Tuscan feel, great sights, museums and atmosphere. We wandered the streets, stopped for coffee and ice cream, explored the stunning and unique cathedrel and had lunch in the Piazza del Campo.

Back at the B&B our room had a balcony with a nice view of the hamlet, bell tower and countryside. We enjoyed a couple of evenings with locally purchased antipasti and wine in the perfect setting.

 

We had a great trip and hope to return to Italy again one day to continue exploring the beautiful country.
