Under The Tuscan Sun

I’m not very good at doing nothing. I need to constantly be occupied by work, a project, anything really. I can’t even cook the dinner without having something on iplayer in the background to watch at the same time! I’m also quite impulsive. This may go some way to explaining the past 12 months.

Last October, I bought a house with my (then!) boyfriend, Chris. Within a few weeks of moving in, we had already started decorating our dining room – it’s not a big room and it was bright red, I couldn’t live with it for long!

After a busy Christmas and New Year period, I was desperate to start on the lounge (hideous wallpaper, I was itching to tear it down). Chris wouldn’t let me and kept stalling, instead trying to make me focus on a new design for the kitchen, which I duly did. Little did I know he had an ulterior motive.

In February, after six and a half years together, he proposed! Which he did in the sweetest way in our lovely new home – hence he didn’t want me decorating and ruining the atmosphere. We both already knew we wanted to get married overseas, and after a couple of weeks of looking and chatting to people we decided on Tuscany. The scenery is beautiful and the food is amazing, what more could you possibly want.

We booked our wedding whilst on a skiing holiday in March (as I said, impulsive) and decided to get married in a gorgeous town called Cortona, which you may have seen in the film ‘Under the Tuscan Sun’.

Cortona-Montepulciano

When we got back from our holiday, it was all systems go on planning the wedding. We had booked it for 19th October 2015, so only had seven months to pull it all together. I bought my dress, went shopping and bought dresses for my bridesmaids and we found suits for Chris and the groomsmen. We also made lots of decisions on flowers, venues, food…the list goes on, all with the help of our Italian wedding planners, Super Tuscan Weddings, who were absolutely amazing. We couldn’t have done it without them.

We also got completely sick of the wallpaper and tore it down, so we had to decorate the lounge!

The wedding day came around so quickly, and before we knew it, we were on a plane on our way to Italy. After an official meeting at Cortona town hall to declare ourselves, we were all ready to go.

The day itself was perfect. The sun shone and it was lovely and warm, the small, 15th century church was beautiful and the restaurant where our reception was held was rustic and cosy and had an amazing atmosphere. There were a few tears, lots of laughing and loads of eating and drinking. We had a traditional Italian wedding meal, so seven courses later, we staggered to the dance floor to try and work it off.

The next day, we set off on our honeymoon, travelling around Italy. We went to Assisi, Rome, Siena, Florence and Bologna, stopping off at a few places in between. As I said, we like to be busy! It was all just the best experience, completely perfect. Tuscany will always have a special place in our hearts.
