Recognising that flooring was a major factor when considering and developing plans for their new look stores, Clinton Cards looked to our designflooring as part of a companywide rebranding strategy.
James Waller, planning and design manager at Clinton Cards, sought a flooring that would meet the main requirements of the project – design capability and durability to withstand heavy footfall. In the end, James specified Karndean Designflooring to replace the stores’ tired looking carpet, which didn’t fit with the new contemporary colour scheme, was difficult to keep clean and wore down quite quickly.
We caught up with James to find out how he went about choosing our designflooring for the new outlets…
“Using Karndean’s Product Selector, I presented a variety of flooring options together with their costs to the Board. The options included engineered woods, ceramics and other vinyl options. Because of the colour range and durability, Karndean met the requirements and came in on budget. In addition, Karndean Designflooring is a supplier we’ve used and trusted in the past, so we were keen to use them again,” James told us.
The design brief for the project was for a dark wood toned floor, so Art Select Midnight Oak and Opus Carbo were the two products that stood out from the rest. Midnight Oak has a rich depth to it (as pictured above) and is used in the majority of Clinton’s stores, whilst Opus Carbo planks were chosen as a slightly more cost-effective alternative for outlets with a lower budget.
James’ continued:“the refurbishment programme was very ambitious, requiring thousands of square metres of flooring over a short amount of time. My main concern was whether or not Karndean could keep up with the demand. I was assured by my Commercial Business Manager that they could, and they did. I know this wasn’t easy and this is the reason Karndean is my first choice flooring supplier.”
James explained how the stores’ managers and staff are delighted with the new contemporary look and new flooring. They’re finding the floor easier to clean and the updated branding has made a huge positive difference to both staff and customers alike.
