Aside from being surrounded by loved ones, the main event on Christmas Day is the much anticipated feast! It’s the one time of year we can be forgiven for a little indulgence and perhaps going over the top – both with food and decorative details.
Whether you’re hosting a festive gathering for the family or pre-Christmas drinks for friends, any one of these six decorative styles will transform your dining room into a magical destination…
Simplistic Scandi – stick to clean, bright white and minimal decorative details. This doesn’t mean bare – opt for considered and thoughtful decorations, (as featured above) keeping with the principle ‘ less is more’. Focus on mixing textures in similar tones and you will create a warm, inviting, and most of all, relaxing atmosphere where your guests will want to linger.
Nestling Nature – bright berries, dark greens and white frosting make for sumptuous table displays. Look to fruit garlands, potted poinsettias and seasonal foliage to dress the entire room. To create something a little more focal, swap out a wall hanging for a large festive wreath, as seen above.
Sparkling Spirit – glistening gold or silver will add a sense of occasion to your seasonal dining. A beaded table runner will catch the light beautifully and metallic trim glassware will bring a sense of sophistication to your table. Complement glittered candles with large church candles, and if possible, either place on the mantel piece or a mirrored tray.
Folklore Fun – guaranteed to bring joyful spirit to you dining room, bright and colourful folklore patterns will instantly set the tone for the festivities. Easy to incorporate via soft furnishings, placemats and napkins.
Contemporary Christmas – keeping things modernistic, a white base with hints of colour offer a sublime statement style. Or, if you’d rather add a touch of subtle luxury, look to gilt tableware or glassware.
Traditional Treat – the essence of the season is tradition and celebration. Therefore dust off those decs, the family heirlooms and hand-me-downs, your finest china and silverware. For simple, cost-effective additions, red or tartan bows on the back of chairs are a sweet touch.
